Erick van Egeraat’s project Vershina Trade and Entertainment Centre in Surgut will be presented in the framework of the exhibition ‘New Dutch Design’ at M’ARS Centre of Contemporary Arts in Moscow. The exhibition will display the works of about 50 Dutch designers.
Erick van Egeraat will present the project, among others of his international portfolio, in a lecture event in the framework of the exhibition on October 1st at the Moscow Architectural Institute. A second lecture will he held by Dutch shoe designer Jan Jansen, followed by a round table session with the two speakers, moderated by cultural attaché of the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Moscow Sjeng Scheijen.
Vershina Trade and Entertainment Centre in Surgut will be Erick van Egeraat’s first project realized in Russia. The award-winning design features a large central mass visually divided into discrete sharp volumes by transparent cuts in the façade. These ‘lines of light’ allow daylight in, and radiate artificial light out at night. Corresponding with the long and dark winter nights of Siberia, the play of light makes the building an illuminated icon, in the midst of repetitive panel housing in the city.
Phase I of the project comprises 33.900 m2 of retail spaces, extreme sports areas, dance studios, restaurants, bars and an underground night-club. Phase II will allocate additional retail, offices, modern hotel and exhibition premises. The Trade and Entertainment Centre is being developed by Development Corporation “SKU” and will open in November 2009.
The lectures will start on October 1st, at 6.30 pm at Moscow Architectural Institute, 11 Rozhdestvenka street.
The exhibition ‘New Dutch Design’ is an initiative of the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Moscow. It will be inaugurated by the Dutch Minister of Foreign Trade Mr. Frank Heemskerk and will be open to the public from October 1st till October 12th in M’ARS Centre of Contemporary Arts, Pushkarev pereulok, 5, Moscow.
