A roadshow presenting Erick van Egeraat’s revitalisation scheme for Canning Town to the public has ended on an overall positive note. Canning Town is part of the London Borough of Newham and is bordering the development area for the Olympic Games 2012.
During the past months, Erick van Egeraat led a multidisciplinary team of UK based consultancies to create a new masterplan for the area. The design aims to regenerate one of London’s prime areas for urban revitalisation and focuses on social and economic infrastructure integrated with key spatial reconfigurations and urban design principles.
According to the client, the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation in conjunction with London Borough of Newham and the English Cities Fund , “this project should set a new benchmark for urban revitalisation schemes.”
Works on the main phase have already started and are expected to be completed by 2012.
