The Bratislava Riverside development is a major redevelopment of the former exhibition area in the Slovak capital city centre that has long sat idle. Situated in the water zone of the plot, the Hotel incorporates the natural phenomenon of the water into its design and is both a continuation and an enhancement of the style and elegance of the Kempinski Hotels & Resorts.
Evoking the words ‘elegant’, ‘unexpected’, ‘exciting’ and ‘grand’ the design connotes an iceberg rising monumentally from the smooth surface of the water, framed by the surrounding castle hills. The choice of both colours and materials - glass, frosted glass, glossy fritting, translucent metal sheets, and metal profiles - all enrich the iceberg connotation. Using a typical regional pattern to reference traditional Slovakian decorations, the façade glass surfaces have been silk-screened to add complexity and richness with a distinctly local emotion.
The functional design of Kempinski Riverpark stems from the strict operational requirements of a five-star hotel with particular attention to the required connections and sizes of the functional spaces. The intelligently designed horizontal and vertical circulation provides for an efficient and comfortably managed hotel.
The L-shaped building encompasses a total of 227 guestrooms housed on eight floors and includes lobby, reception area with back offices, a Grand Café on the square and a restaurant towards the ground floor promenade. The design incorporates ballrooms and meeting rooms on the first floor, and finally, a wellness centre, pool, sport area, relaxation, beauty and treatment zones on the 11th floor.
